Meta AI ads in 2026: what AI is actually doing to your campaigns
In the US, searches for “meta ai ads” are up 250% in a year. That tracks: since spring, every time you open Ads Manager an assistant offers to “fix” your campaigns. Some advertisers ignore it on principle, others click everything it suggests. Both are a little wrong.
We sorted out what is already live, what is only announced, and what it means whether you spend $500 or $50,000 a month.
Key takeaways
- Meta’s AI business assistant has been open to all advertisers and agencies since April 2026. Meta reports a 12% lower cost per result for accounts that apply its recommendations (Meta’s own number, so read it as such).
- Since December 16, 2025, your chats with Meta AI also shape the ads you see. Except in the EU, the UK and South Korea.
- On the creative side, Advantage+ already generates image, copy and format variations. The stated goal for the end of 2026: a full ad built by AI from one product photo and a budget.
- What stays with you: the offer, the landing page, conversion tracking, and judging what fits your brand.
What “Meta AI ads” actually means
The phrase covers three things that have little in common, which is where the confusion comes from. There is the assistant that advises you in the interface. There is the delivery AI (Andromeda, then the GEM model) that decides which ad to show to whom. And there is the creative AI that produces variations of your visuals and copy.
You can ignore the first one. You get the second one no matter what: it has been running every Meta campaign since late 2024. The third one you switch on or off, campaign by campaign.
The three layers of AI in Meta ads
The timeline, so you can keep track
A lot of coverage mixes up announcements with what you can actually use. Here is the order things happened in.
AI in Meta advertising, 2024 to 2026
The AI assistant: useful, if you read before you click
The assistant lives in Ads Manager, Meta Business Suite and Business Support Home. It does two jobs. The first is support: disabled accounts, spend limits, payment errors. Meta says it resolves those issues 20% more often than the old flow. If you have ever lost a week trying to recover a blocked ad account, you know that matters.
The second job is optimization. The assistant leans on the opportunity score (the number out of 100 at the top of your account) and suggests changes: broaden the audience, switch to Advantage+, add formats. Meta reports a 12% drop in cost per result for accounts that apply them.
Our take: that number comes from Meta, measured by Meta, on accounts that chose to follow Meta’s advice. It is probably true on average and wrong for a good chunk of advertisers. A recommendation that broadens your audience often lowers cost per result… because it finds cheaper results, not better ones. An ecommerce brand optimizing for add-to-cart can end up with more carts and fewer sales.
Your Meta AI chats now feed targeting (not in Europe, for now)
Since December 16, 2025, what people tell Meta AI, typed or spoken, joins likes and follows in deciding which ads and posts they see. Ask the assistant for wedding venue ideas and caterers and florists may start showing up in your Instagram feed. There is no opt-out.
Meta excludes sensitive topics (religion, sexual orientation, political views, health, ethnic origin) and does not apply the change in the EU, the UK or South Korea, where data rules are stricter.
For a US or Canadian advertiser, it is one more signal in the machine, and one more reason to keep targeting broad: the algorithm already knows more than the interests you would tick by hand.
Generated creative: great for testing, rarely the final cut
Advantage+ can already crop your images for each placement, generate backgrounds, rewrite your copy and animate a still photo. For a store with 300 products, that is a huge time saver. For a brand where image matters (fashion, beauty, a restaurant with some ambition), results are more uneven: a generated background can look off next to your real photos.
What works well for the advertisers we follow: switch on the “technical” enhancements (cropping, brightness, formats) and keep control of anything that touches copy or mood. Then look at the variations that actually ran, in the ad preview, at least once a week.
Advantage+ creative options: what to enable, what to watch
Fine to switch on
- Automatic cropping per placement
- Brightness and contrast adjustments
- Music added to Reels
- Product catalog in dynamic format
Test it, but review it
- AI-rewritten copy
- Generated backgrounds
- Still photo turned into video
- Added text overlays
“One photo and a budget”: what that means for small brands
If the end-of-2026 goal lands, a bakery in Austin will be able to upload a photo of its new pie, set $10 a day, and let Meta write the copy, cut a video, pick the audience and the placements. It sounds like magic, and for many small shops that never ran ads at all, it will be real progress.
But the machine optimizes whatever you ask it to measure. Track only clicks and it will find you clickers. What will separate two advertisers using the same tool is the quality of the signal they send Meta (pixel and Conversions API set up properly, events that match real sales) and the quality of what happens after the click. Everything else, AI will standardize for everyone.
The numbers to remember
What we suggest doing right now
- Check your conversion tracking before anything else. A poorly fed AI optimizes toward the wrong goal, very efficiently.
- Use the assistant for support, that is where it saves the most time. For optimization, read each recommendation and ask which metric it really moves.
- Keep targeting broad if your conversion volume allows it (around fifty a week per ad set is the usual benchmark).
- Feed it range: several very different visuals beat ten variations of the same photo. Andromeda needs diversity to find its audiences.
- Keep a control campaign on manual settings for one product, so you know whether automation does better for you, not on average. We explain how in Advantage+ vs manual campaigns.
Where Perroly fits
The more Meta automates, the more useful it becomes to look at your numbers outside its interface, next to your other platforms. Perroly’s Ads module shows your Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Snapchat campaigns in one place with the same metrics. And when an ad drives Instagram or Messenger messages, messaging automations reply right away, even at 11 pm.

Frequently asked questions
What is Meta AI ads?
Shorthand for the AI tools across Meta advertising: the AI business assistant that advises you in Ads Manager, the delivery engine (Andromeda, GEM) and Advantage+ generated creative.
Does Meta use my Meta AI chats for advertising?
Yes since December 16, 2025, except in the EU, the UK and South Korea. Sensitive topics such as health, religion or political views are excluded.
Is Meta’s AI business assistant free?
Yes, it is built into Ads Manager, Meta Business Suite and Business Support Home, and open to all advertisers since April 2026.
Should I apply every opportunity score recommendation?
No. Read each one and check which metric it improves. A recommendation that lowers cost per result can also lower result quality if your conversion goal is poorly chosen.
Will Meta ads be fully automated in 2026?
That is the goal reported by the Wall Street Journal in June 2025. As of early October 2026, generated creative and the assistant exist, but fully automatic ads from a single photo are not yet widely available.
